This was The last residence of Merchant & Parliamentarian John Lamb, and one of the final survivors of the Darlinghurst Ridges original villa before it all gave way to flats.
Built - No One is sure, but it was the only house that was built and finished by convicts labour.
The Architect is also Unknown, and no records have come to light
Larbert Lodge was demolished 1937 - 1938

BUILDER AND OWNER
John Lamb went to sea at 11, and first saw NSW in 1805, sailing with Governor Bligh, & later left the navy for trade, forming the shipping & wool broking firm Lamb, Buchanan and Co with his cousin Walter Buchanan.
He served in the Legislative Council from 1844 and chaired the founding committee of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce.
His first Grand house was Specncer Lodge At Millers Point, close to his Darling Harbour wharves & stores.
in 1855 Lamb reitred to England, building a house in Clapham Park, but returned to Sydney within a couple of years and re entered public Life. It was on this return that Larbert Lodge became his home.
At the time the whole Ridge from Potts Point to Kings Cross was called Darlinghurst - the modern suburb boundaries didnt yet split this area up, which is why the house is sometimes labelled Darlinghurst and sometimes Potts Point

DEATHS AT LARBERT LODGE
John Lamb died at Larbert Lodge on 17 January 1862. His wife died there too on 27 August 1880, aged 77 Years. Both are buried at St Judes - Randwick
John Lamb and his wife had 14 Children. Several are individually documented
John Lamb (1790 - 1862) and wife Emma Trant (nee Robinson) (1803 - 1880) had 14 children (8 sons & 6 Daughters)
1 Son and 1 Daughter died in Infancy
- Walter Lamb (1825-1906) - Eldest Son - Later a MLC
- Edward William Lamb (1828-1910) - Queensland Secretary for Lands.
- John De Villiers Lamb (1833 - 1900) - Squatter / Grazier, died at Uralla - 22 Bayswater Rd, Darlinghurst
- Jane Lamb (1825 - 1855) - Died at Double Bay Aged 30
Alice Lamb - later Wall (1827 - 1902) - Died at North Sydney from Stroke.
- Henrietta Octavia Lamb - Later Smith (1839 - 1914) - Died at Darling Point
- Lucy Jane Lamb (1842 - 1914) - who married Henry Carry Dangar in 1865, and died at Double Bay
- Alfred Lamb (1845 - 1890) - MLA for West Sydney, who also died at Potts Point
By the time John Lamb occupied the house he was in his late 60's So it was likely sereved as a quiet final home rather than a Long running Society venue.

DECLINE AND DEMOLITION
By the 1930's Larbert Lodge was one of the last Of Darlinghurt Ridges Original Villas still standing. A 1937 newspaper feature grouped it with Kellett House, & Springfield as facing the same fate that had already overtaken Roslyn Hall & Orwell house. Shortly after, the Larbert estate was sold & Subdivided; Larbert Avenue was formed on the site and building proceeded there throughout 1937 - 1938
